Mount McKinley and the 30% Club

August 19, 2011

On waking at the North Denali Viewpoint the skies were still blue. This is almost unprecedented in Alaska. I woke Sarah early than she would have liked and we started driving to get all the view of the mountain we could.

The ones from the South Denali Viewpoint were the best that we saw.

We are now officially part of what is called the ‘30% club’ as only 30% of visitors to this area ever get to see Mt McKinley at all because of the almost constant cloud cover.

Did you know that you have become cult viewing in Group IT at HUK. Not bad for a grumpy ex – FD! Go Mark!

I too am part of the 30% club – just last week in the extraordinary weather of sunny, blue skies and temperatures in the ’70’s. Don’t let the 30% statistic dissuade you from going. The reward is worth the risk. She is so beautiful, you have to try.

We were very fortunate to see mt Denali on our recent visit. We are trying to find a 30 Percent Club T-shirt. So far we have learned that the t-shirts are currently out of stock. Does anyone know of a source for this t-shirt? If all else fails, could someone post a picture of the t-shirt and I’ll have one made. Thank you, Barry
